THE CRICKET: Plays the violin; works its magic on hearth and home and all who dwell therein. Teen or adult.
THE KETTLE: Plays the flute; will boil whether it wants to or not. Teen or adult.
DOT PEERYBINGLE: John Peerybingle’s wife; mother of their infant son. Teens to 20s
JOHN PEERYBINGLE: A Parcel carrier; a lumbering, slow, honest man. 30 – 40s.
TILLY SLOWBOY: Mrs. Peerybingle’s clumsy nursemaid. Teen or adult.
BOXER: The Peerybingle’s dog; ready for everything. Teen or adult.
CALEB PLUMMER: A poor old toy maker; works for Tackleton. 40s – 70s
BERTHA PLUMMER: Caleb’s blind daughter. Late teens - 20s.
EDWARD PLUMMER: Handsome son of Caleb Plummer; a sailor long ago gone to the golden South Americas. 20s to 30s
TACKLETON: Generally known as “Gruff and Tackleton”, a stern ill-natured toy merchant. Age Range 40 or older.
THE DELIVERY MAN: Hired by Tackleton Teen or adult
MAY FIELDING: Friend of Dot Peerybingle since childhood. Teens to 20s
MRS. FIELDING: May’s mother; a peevish, querulous lady. 40s and older
